AN INTERESTING MACHINE
A SHOW WEEK ATTRACTION. . Tim sight of intricate machinery in motion is_ a spectacle that is absorbingly interesting to most of us, and one that conies as a welcome diversion to those whose daily range of vision takes in nothing but immobile objects. This is the reason, no doubt, why such large numbers regularly visit Thomsons’ model cordial and carbonated water factory when it is thrown open for inspection during Show Meek. Every Winter Show hundreds visit the factory daily, amongst them being quite a number who attend not only once in a while, but every year they go to the Show, so fascinating is it to" watch tiro almost human machines at work. Ibis year the factory is again being thrown open for inspection, and there doubtless will be a larger attendance than ever, for in addition to the tilling, labclling. arid counting machines, the wonderful Purity Hydro machine, a recent invention of the firm, is now in operation, and in itself is a great attraction. Hie Purity Hydro took Messrs Cosson? and Black some 18 months to build. [I is an imposing machine, about 50ft in length, sft in height, and 4ft in width, and is driven by electricity. But its great attraction lies in its wonderful efficiency. Without the bottles being lifted or touched by anyone, the Purity Hvdro deans, washes, rinses, and delivers 5,000 perfeetly sterilised bottles in an hour—-a feat that must be witnessed to be properly realised. Other interesting objects besides the Purity Hydro which are well worth a few minutes’ inspection are the gas-washing tank, tiled water storage, tank (which' i*s lighted internally by electricity), and the laboratory, with its ozone generating plant, elaborate and delicate scales, and other accessories used for the, scientific testing of raw used in manufacturing the firm’s popular products. Altogether a pleasant and instructive hour may be spent going through this model sunlit factory, with its up-to-date equipment. The hours are from 9 to 12 in the morning. 1 to 5 in the afternoon, and 7t09 in the evening. Thursday, being the King's Birthday, the factory will be dosed all day, while on Saturday, a half-day. the hours of inspection are from 9t012 in the morning only. The factory is most conveniently situated, being only a few doors from the Agricultural Hail, in Crawford street, where the Show is being held.
