THE WINTER SHOW

OPENS TO-MORROW AFTERNOON. NEW FEATURES. The Winter Show of the Otago A. and P. Society is each year becoming of more importance, as it does, a splendid illustration of the fertility of the soil of the province and the enterprise of local manufacturers.. The show to be opened at 2 o clock to-morrow afternoon promise to be equal to anything seen in the past, and entries in almost all sections show a large increase. To-day the committee were busily engaged in arranging stands and exhibits in the Brydone Hall and annexes, and have everything well in hand. Tim display of cheese and fruit will bo the best seen for many years. ' those qualified to judge stating that the quality of both these cxihibitsyis excellent. Owing to the introduction of exhibits by the Manufacturers’ Association—an entirely new feature—there will bo no room for sideshows, the space usually allotted to these being replaced by far more important exhibits by the manufacturers. Their showing of articles made in the province will be found to splendid, and is all the more commendable because at the present time there is a shortage of material and labor, and the manufacturers have more orders than they can cope with. The Agricultural Department, for the first time since pre-war days, is also making a display of grasses suitable for Central Otago and of lucerne grown in various parts of New Zealand. During the course of the show Mr A. Macpherson (Fields Instructor, Canlerbiny) will lecture on lucerne culture and regressing. To enable the committee to get through with their work it has been fo md necessary to commence judging an hour earlier than last year. The show will bo opened to-morrow afternoon without any official ceremonv on account of the inaßilitv of the Prime Minister or any of his colleagues to present. On each afternoon Death’s string band will play, ami in the evenings tlio 4th (Otago) Regiment Band and *he Highland Pipe Band will enliven tho proceedings. Mrs Winter will cater. “ALADDIN” DYE SOAP. [Published by Arrangement.] One of the most interesting displays in this year’s show is undoubtedly that of the “ Aladdin ” Dye Corporation. The local representatives of this concern wero instructed by their principals to spare nothing in the way of expense to make their exhibit a success, and this success has certainly, been achieved. The display is tastefully arranged, and the blending of _ the many colors could not possibly bo improved upon. There will bo an attendant present, and every lady will be presented with a neat and < useful booklet entitled ‘ Jinking Magic with Aladdin.*
