FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Messrs Bray Bros., of Dunedin, Ltd., report as follows for the week ended to-day:— The local demand for chaff has been moderate and consignments equal with the demand. Good quality is worth £8 7s 6d to £8 12s 6d s.e., ex truck. Several shipping inquiries are being received from the North, but owing to the lack of space no business is reported. The oat market is still firm, and shipping demand for oats has been good for forward delivery. Business has been done locally as high as 5s lOd f.0.b.,, s.e.. and holders are not.anxious to deliver at this figure. ■ The wheat market is bare of supplies, practically no parcels offering. The bulk of wheat has been thrashed and crops, ap« pear to have been short. All lines Offering are readily placed at government quotations. Millers prices remain firm as follows :—Flour, £l6 10s to £l7 per' ton 100's; £lB to £3B 10s 50's; £lB 10s to £l9, 25's; and £l9 10s to £2O. • Bran, £8 per ton; pollard. £lO. Pearl barlev, £35. Oatmeal is very firm at £3l to £33 per ton. The potato market remains about the same, there being no shipping demand at present. Consignments are proving equal to the local demand with prices inclined to weaken. Growers are looking forward to the embargo being lifted, nns are not inclined to dispose ot good clean lines. The onion market is easing and well supplied. Eggs also have come back in price, but if the cold weather continues the market is likely to firm. Business during the week has been quiet in the fruit marts, fair consignments of apples and pears having come to hand from Nelson and Canterbury. A big portion of the lines are from cool stores, and the quality only medium. A fair qmntitv of Island oranges has come forward, "and lower prices have been accepted. Seven hundred cases of bananas arrived bv the Mouowai to-day, and the market is bare. Good prices are expected to rule. - Tin's fruit_ costs double the price to land 'that it did in pre-war days. Outside grown tomatoes are finished,"and local hothouse are realising high prices. Pi o melons, marrows, and passion fruit are short of supply, and good prices ruling. Supplies of vegetables are irregular, and prices according to quality. Swede turnips are in supply. The following prices were realised durins the week : * Wheat (scarce), 8s 3d.
