At the San Remo 'Conference a letter was read declining an Armenian mandate on the ground that the covenant did not provide the powers necessary for that purpose, and also that a mandate implied a heavy financial .and military burden. The Conference decided to send a Note to President Wilson recommending America to support Armenia financially. The borders of Armenia were roughly defined. It is understood they are favorable to Armenia, but do not include Trebizond. SNUB FOR AMERICA. (Received April 22, at 9.15 a.m.) The Australian Press Association learn that Italy's grave economic situation accompanied by serious social unrest ' was closely examined by Mr Lloyd George Lord Curzon, and Hignor Nitt'i vesterday at San Renin. (received April 22, at 12.35 p.m.) The San Remo Conference of Allied Embassadors decided to appoint a commission to control Turkish finances. MERELY A SPECTATOR, WASHINGTON, April 21. The Government have ordered Mr Johnston. United States Ambassador at Rome, to attend the San Remo Conference as an official observer for the- United States Government, but not to participate in the discussions.
