_ Sir Joseph Ward left Sydney for Wellington yesterday in the Manuka. The new Board of Agriculture have lately been selected, and the notice of appointment of members appears in the ' Gazette.' The board are now constituted as follow : ■ —Sir. James Wilson (chairman), Messrs W. B. Grant Averill (Maraekakaho), D. Marshall (Waianiwa, Southland), J. Massey (Auckland?; W. R. Mav, A. S. Orbell (Waikouaiti), J. H. Perrett (Sanson), I). W. Westenra (Dunsandel), J. C. N. Grigg (Ashbmton), E.Hall (Onehunga), and W. Perry (Masterton). Constable M'Quitty, who has been transferred to Milton, was entertained by the residents of Caversham last night, .Mr F. Foster presiding. Reference was made to Constable M'Quitty's many good qualities as a police officer and* as a resident. His fidelity, to duty and his recognised impartiality in the conduct of his duties were commented upon, the reference being loudly applauded. During the course of the evening Mrs M'Quitty was the recipient of a well-filled purse'of sovereigns. _Dr Russell Ritchie has been elected chairman of the honorary medical staff at the Hospital, and Dr E. O'Neill secretary. Dr Barnett is recommended for appointment a* co-optative member on the Hospital Committee of the board. Mrs Mee, who has been matron of the Benevolent Institution for the past 33£ years, has resigned her position. It is recommended that she be granted six months' leave of absence. The Rev. C. Eat-on commences his sixth year of ministry in Dunedin on Sunday next and the Central Mission quarterly meeting unanimously congratulate:! lain on hisreappointment, ai.d a resolution of appreciation of his oast services was minuted, with expressions of hearty goodwill for his future ministry in this Citv. There was a. large attendance at the Oddfellows' Hall, Outram, on Wednesday evening, the occasion beinsr to say farewell to Mr T. Johnston and faniilv, old residents of the district, Mr Johnston haying been connected with the Farmers' Union as veterinary surgeon for many years. Mr Johnston was presented with p. well-filled purse of sovereigns bv the chairman (Mr J. Millar), on behalf of the residents, while both Mr Johnston and Mr Johnston, jun., were made the, recipients of fountain pens by the Loyal Outram Lodge, these presentations beinsr made bv Mr John Grant. Both recipients suitably replied. During the evening musical items wore rendered by Misses Gamble 12), Patrick, and Dow, and Messrs Chisholm, M'Bride, Bathgate, and Roberts (2». An enjoyable dance was afterwards held. Mr Johnston has purchased a farm near Kaitangata, to 'which place he and his family have removed.

Captain Tahu Rhodes has gone to Suva, where he will await the arrival of the Prin-e of Wales, whom he will accompany to New Zealand.

A well-known resident, of Mosgiel—Mrs O'Grady—was" fa-re welled in St." Mary's School on Tuesday evening. There was a large gathering of friends", and an enjoyable social was held. Rev. Father Mo'rkane presided, and in the course of the evening presented Mrs O'Grady with a Mosgiel rug and straps (mounted with a silver inscribed plate) and a handbag containing" "a purse of money. Farewell speeches were made by Very Rev. Father Liston, Miss A. Knott, and Mr D. O'Brien. Mr A. Moynihan replied on behalf of Mrs O'Grady. A short musical programme was gone through, and after supper a pleasant social closed with ' Auld Lang Syne,' Mrs O'Grady leaves for Ireland at an early date , Mr G. Andrews, station master at Mosgiel for the past three years, who is retiring on superannuation after 40 years' service, was met by representatives 'of all departments of the local station yesterday and presented with a silver-mounted umbrella. Mrs Andrews was presented with a dressing case. Mr 8. Pnngle explained the object for which the party had assembled, and Mr T. Churchill "made the. presentation. Mr Andrews acknowledged the gifts on his own behalf and that of Ins wife. Mr and Mrs Andrews left for Wellington to-day. At the annual meeting of the Mosgiel Anglican Church last night reference was made to Mr Andrews's departure, and the Vestry decided to send a letter to him expressing thanks for services rendered during his stay in Mosgiel. A farewell' social was tendered to Mr and Mrs A. J. Botting on Thursday evening in the Mornington Methodist Hal!. The Rev. B. F. R-othwell presided, and ,v very pleasant evening was epent. Short speeches testifying to the sterling qualities of their guests were made by Messrs G. A. Skene, Patron, J. P. Simon, W. . Aitcheson, Moodv, and G. Harvey, and memento?.? cf friendship were handed to the family. The prograrr-me included songs by Misses Payne, Guv. Messrs Moody, and M'Lean, and recitals bv Misses Lamb and FrapwelL. .Mr Bottin'sr leaves Mornington for" the Clutha. district on Monday.
