TAIERI SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
The Taieri_ Returned Soldiers held their .annual meeting on Wednesday evening, ■the president (Dr Spedding) occupying the chair. The .annual, report. which was adopted, showed the membership to be 118 soldiers and two nurse.s. The committee recommended that in future 10 ■form a quorum, and that the meetings be htH quarterly. The Otag> boundaries had been arranged, and at no distant date the association would be the headquarters :of the soldiers on the plain. The report outlined the activities of the association who had assisted soldiers in manv wavs.' The social side had not been neglected", and suggestions as to improvements in the evening entertainments at the clubhouse would be welcomed. Thanks were* accorded the Women's Patriotic Association for a piano, etc., and to those who had supplied magazines., papsrs, etc., or helped the association in any way. A number of photographs of fallen comrades had been framed to hang on the walls of the room, and the association once asiain expressed sympathy with the bereaved relatives. The balance-sheet showed a "ood credit balance. ° Office-bearers were elected as followsPresident, Dr .Spedding; vice-president, Mr Hanna; secretary, Mr A. S. Kennedy ; treasurer, Mr J. Kennedv; committeeMessrs A. Xeill, Callick,""A. Sinclair, It. Wyllie, G. Hendry ; auditors, Messrs' w! E. M'Lean and J. A. M'Einnon. It was resolved to take steps to have a local memorial erected to the fallen soldiers, also to urge the borough council to endeavor to have a big gun secured as a war trophy for Mosgiel, it having been reported that only four machine guns had been allotted to the town.
