AT THE PLAZA
‘ Mirandy Smiles’ is the headliner of the programme which was screened at the Plaza for the first time this afternoon. The principal role is entrusted to Vivian Martin. The story centres round Mirandy Judkins (Vivian Martin), a little scrubgirl in an opera house. She. meets Teddy Lawrence, a musician, and goes to church with him. ■ She is impressed by tho rector’s discourse, in which ha makes a plea to all to give all they can to patriotic funds. Mirandy conceives 1 the idea of having a sacred concert in her home so that she can give as the .rector urged. The rector surprises the “ party, and Mirandy gives him 57 cents, the gross proceeds of the concert. Mirandy now moves in higher society. She fluids her hnir and dresses well, and Teddy is delighted with her, MirandyV- mother comes
a ■ posses.-, on of considerable money, and plans to take her to the country to live on c, farm. She protests, as she think, farm life would be distasteful to her; but in the end she is sent to school, and everything ends happily for her and Teddy. Vivian Martin plays her part (so hard for cue of her station) very well, and is well supported by the cast.
