The a™?™! report of the Shipwreck' Relief Society of New Zealand states : In presenting the 17th annual report I your committee are again pleased to be 1 able to state that the past year was free from any serious shipping disaster. Dur- i mg the year the society were called upon j to afford relief in three cases only—viz., j crew of e.s. Wairoa to the extent of £2l ’ 1 cook of schooner Awanui £7 10s, and wife i of master of Awanui £ls. To the Union : Steam Ship Company your committee ' again express their indebtedness for their i continued and valued support. The sum I of £207 14s 7d has been received from i entertainments and collections on board l the company’s steamers. Thanks are also' due to the Huddart-Parker Proprietary, | Ltd., for the sum of £26 3s received from I collections and entertainments on board ' the Ulimaroa. Your committee also desire to express to the captains, pursers, officers, and crews their best thanks for the kindly interest they have at all times displayed in the work of the society. Your committee gratefully acknowledge ‘the. following donations Auckland Navy League £SO, Otago, Bluff, and Wellington Harbor Boards £lO 10s each. Gisborne Harbor Board £lO, Riverton, Wanganui, and Nelson Harbor Boards £2 2s each, Wairoa, Thames, and Hokitika Harbor Boards £1 Is each, and the Westport Coal Company ■ Ltd., £5 ss. Your committee regret to I report the loss they have sustained by the i death of one of their life members in I the person - of Mr Thomas Brown. He j took a keen interest in the welfare of the ■ society, and bequeathed to it the sum of £250. Your committee desire to express special thanks to Captain Flepiing. the society’s Auckland representative. who is at all times fully alive to the society's j interests, and has been instrumental "in | securing several valuable contributions, in-. 1 eluding the sum of £ll 17s f rom the seamen using the port of Auckland during the past year.
