LATE TELEGRAMS.' Hastings.—Tho Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education), in formally opening tho new Hastings East School to-day, dwelt on the importance of education and tho need for sufficient school accommodation. This led him to speak of the shortage of labor and of supplies hindering the building of 1 schools. He said that if in any district it was a question of whether »• shop should, be erected or whether the construction of a school be proceeded, with, the shop should give way to the" school/ He was going to urge in Parliament that the claims ,of the children should come first. He coui<. not accept the position that building of schools should be pub aside to, 'private interests. He appealed to builders and contractors to give preference to school contracts. The construction of schools should be placed en lb'-' same level with the construction -of workers' dwellings.
