——♦ ENGLAND BEATS SCOTLAND. Tress By Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, April 10. The Association football match played at Sheffield resulted: England 5 goala, Scotland 4: SOCCER REFEREES. The annual meeting of the Otago Association Football Referees' Club was held in Mr S. Myers's rooms. The president (Major Fleming) was' in the chair, and there was a large attendance of members, including several new ones. The Chairman read the report (already published), and in moving its adoption gave some kindly advice to all concerned, particularly to junior and new members. Mr Robinson, seconded, and the report was unanimously adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Major Fleming (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mr Robinson and Mr M'Callum; secretary, Mr M'Calium; Appointments Committee. Messrs M'Calhim and Downes; delegate to 0.F.A., Mr Kilpatrick; Examining Board, Messrs Robinson and M'Callum. The following resolution was passed to avoid confusion with the name of the Rugby referees: —"That the name of the" club be altered from Otago Referees' Asso# elation to Otago Association Football Referees' Club." The question of badges for referees who had passed the examination for first grade referee was brought up again, and it was decided to write to* the Canterbury Referees' Association for information on the matter, and-as to forming a South Island Association Football Referees' Club, who, among other functions, would grant such badges. On the same subject, the necessity for all referees to prepare and sit for examination was urged, and tests for theory and practice will be held as quickly as convenient. Quite a number have arranged to be examined. A number of new referees were enrolled, thus strengthening an already fairly strong club, although, to provide against a busy season, further new members would bo welcome, and an invitation is extended to ex-players and others' to rally round., The members were asked to attend practice matches of the Association football clubs, and thus prepare themselves for the matches when they start. The O.F.A. are to be asked to have all grounds properly and safely marked ont, .to have goalposts whitewashed, and to instruct the various clubs to provide and have in use ground flags on all occasions, and to see that captains are arranging to commence matches promptly to time. The Chairman addressed the meeting, promising the -members all support from mmself and senior members, and urging the necessity of pulling together and assisting one' another for the furtherance ol clean and well-conducted sport.
