WESTLAND GREAT WAR MEMORIAL.
TO TUB BDITOH. Sir, —I venture to ask space in your reading columns for the purpose of drawing the attention of your ' ex-Westland readers to the movement to erect a memorial to the Westland soldiers and nurses who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. It has been decided to erect a cenotaph on a suitable site in Cass square, Hokitika, at a cost of not leas than £1,500. A winged figure of Victory will surmount' the dome of the cenotaph, and under tho dome will be the stone of remembranco, whereon the names of the fallen will be carved. The sum required for the memorial is to be raised by voluntary contributions within a period from April 15 to April 25, and on the latter date (Aneac Day) the founda-tion-stone will bo laid.
Donations from ex-West-landers will be received with thanks, and mav be forwarded to tho Mayor or Town Clerk nf The names of the Westlandborn soldiers who enlisted a-ivav and served in any other unit and who fell should be forwarded to the undersigned, for record on tho stone of remembrance.—l am, etc., D.
