WOMEN CITIZENS
THE ASSOCIATION'S MEETING. _The monthly meeting of the Women Citizens' Association was held last evening. Mrs S. Clark presiding. An address on ' Public Institutions' was given by the Rev. E. A. Axelsen. who gave interesting details of the reform which had been worked in the boys and youths in the various homes. He' would say from his lengthy experience that theninstitutions were carried on with intelligence and with kindness and with a determination to do the very best they could for the young people. Greatchanges had taken place in the treatment of the inmates in the last few years, ana these changes had proved all for the better. The work of reformation, it tackled in the right- spirit; was a great work, and ho wanted to say that the New Zealand Government had" tackled it- as no other Government, so far as he knew; had tackled the social problems in their respective countries • In answer to a question, Mr Axelsen said if members of the association desired to visit the home? in and around Dunedin they would have to make application to the managers for permission. Ho said that a visitor co-ihl not fail to be impressed with the wonderful way the natients at Seacliff were looked after. Though their relatives might suffer through the thought of their people being there, there were few of the patients who suffered from the thought that thev were inmates. The following ladies wore appointed to visit tho various institutions (subject to Permission being granted) :—Seacliff Mental Hospital and Waitati Home. Mr* Meares Mirams and .Mrs Leech; Caversham Home, Miss De Beer and Miss Hill Jack; Forth Street and St, Helen's -Maternity Homes. Mrs Leech and MrsDe Beer: Benevolent Institution, Mrs Clark and Miss Hazel Wilson.
