V, Advice has been received in Sydney that three steamers have been added to -the service of the United States and Australian Line. The three- ships are the Donald M'Kay, the Nishmaha, and the Chepadoa, The last-mentioned two are'new steamers built by the U.S.A. Government, and have a tonnage of 6.000 each. ' NEW STEAMER ACHILLES. • Scott's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, launched-on January 8 the new steamer Achilles, built to the "" order of Messrs . Alfred Holt»and Co., Liverpool. She is one of the largest vessels . built on the lower reaches of the Clyde. The Achilles is 500 ft in length. with a gross tonnage of 11,4©). Advice has been" received by the Commonwealth and Dominion .Line that their new steamer Port Kembla has been launched at Newcastle-on-Tyne. The Port Kembla is a sister" ship to the Port Nicholson, which has already visited Australia and New Zealand. Like » the Port Nicholson, she is a turbinedriven steamer, has a cruiser stern, and has splendid accommodation for first saloon passengers. The Port Kembla was built hy Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co., and is of 8.465 tons gross register. She is ' • 480 ft lonar. with a beam of 62ft 2in,' and a depth of 33ft. _ With the launching of the Port Kembla the whole of the, new vessels ordered by the company to replace those lost during the war have been placed in the, water.
