SMYTHE CONCERT COMPANY
The career of Mr Charles Smyt-he, who, with a talented little coterie of artists appears at the Empire next Saturday, is probably uneelipsed in the speed attainment to the front rank of tho profession. A native of Sydney, he immediately leapt to prominence on making his debut aC the London Palace Theatre. Next he accepted the important position of principal basso at Westminster Cathedral, London. Many lucrative engagements being offered, he took part in oratorio work throughout England and numerous other important roles. Mr Smythe also appeared in the role of the Admiral in that delightful musical comedy ‘The White Chrysanthemum.’ He next turned his attention to grand opera, and being engaged to play the part of -Mephistopheles in ‘ Faust' with Dame Melba achieved a triumph. He. repeated ilia success in the same role with Madame ■Calve, and with the Alice Esty Grand Opera Company. With Mr Smythe are Miss Mariam Kutner, pianiste; Miss Anita Greene, soprano; and Miss Bathie Stuart, the popular comedienne, eo favorably known here. The box plan opens at The Bristol on Thursday morning.
