ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
The ordinary meeting of the Council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held in the secretary’s room last evening, the President {Mr G. W. MTntosh) in. the chair. GAME COMMITTEE. The Game Committee reported receiving a letter from the' Department of Internal Affairs, advising that their recommendation for a- curtailed shooting season would he placed Before the Minister. The secretary of the North Canterbury Society wrote saying that more of the re-cently-imported Canadian geese were available for sale, and naked if the Otago Society would take some of their own stock. —Recommended that the society be asked to reserve two pair of the first season’s progeny of the newly-imported birds. Recommended that the following applications for stalking blocks be granted ; Mi- W. R. Twigg and Mr James Dunning (Auckland), block 21; Mr J. Robertson (Makarora), block 27 ■ Messrs C. P. M. Butterworth and H. 11. Butterworth, block 12. The report was adopted without dis- . cussion. ANGLING COMMITTEE. The Angling Committee reported that a letter had been received from Mr J. 0. Buchanan, Naseby, suggesting that 500 two-year-old rainbow trout be put in a dam near, the town.—Recommended that 500 brown trout be sent. It was recommended that eel traps, when available, be sent to Mr Harris, Upper Waiwera, and R. R. Gliron, Dunhack. Recommended that the question of putting fish, taken from the Leith at spawning time, into Tomahawk Lagoon be discussed at the council meeting; that the two-year-old fish at Clinton be distributed as follows : Naseby Dam, 500 Brown ; Waitati, SCO brown and 500 Scotch burn; Lee Stream, 500 brown and 509 Loch L-evcn; Evansdale, 290 Scotch burn ; Shag River, 1.000 Blagdon ; Pomahaka, 500 brown and LOCK) Loch Leven; Waikaia, 1,000 Loch Leveu; Upper Waiwora, 500 brown; Mimihan, 6'lo brown and 550 Blagden; Wyndham, 500 Loch Levon ; Owaka, 500 Loch Leven. In regard to the question of putting fish into Tomahawk Lagoon, it was pointed out by Mr Robinson that it was in the interests of the society that fish be put into the lagoon. Another member stated that the lagoon was a stagaut pool and not worth putting fish in. The first speaker said it was their duty to look after the interests of the local fishermen. ' The chairman said he thought the- lagoon was not a suitable place to put big ■ stripped fish in, and at certain times was not worth putting fish in at all. The Leith i fish were not fit to put into still water ■ as they did not produce good spawn. Mr Robinson moved that 51b fish and under from the Leith be put in the lagoon ” at the spawning season if the lagoon, in ’ the opinion of the Angling Committee, ■ was in a fit condition.—Carried. 1 The Angling Committee’s report was ■■ adopted with the foregoing discussion. * GENERAL. The chairman mentioned the question of { the boundary between the Otago and { Southland acclimatisation districts,' and stated that the Otago society had been approached in regard to appointing a dele- - gate to attend the commission which had 3 been formed to investigate the matter. 1 They had agreed to send a delegate as soon as possible.—Agreed to let the matter stand over until after the Prince of Wales’s visit.
