CHILD DROWNED IN TUB. [Per United Fp.kss Association.] PALMERSTON N., March 29. Yesterday afternoon Henry James Nicholls, the 18-months-old son of H. J. Nicholls, was drowned in a tub containing 6in of water, and used for holding gold fish., LOST OVERBOARD. [Pep. United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 29. The 'steamer Joan Craig, en route from Newcastle to Auckland, lost a. seaman (name unknown) overboard during heavy ; weather, and had to put into Russell for j medical attention for another man who sustained a broken arm. John Forde Matthews, aged 23 years, residing with his parents at Gisborne, was found in a critical condition on Saturday afternoon, the indications being that he was suffering from poisoning. JJe died shortly afterwards. Tha deceased'served for three years at the war, and since he returned he had been tinder the doctor's care. When seen a short time before his death he was apparently in good spirits.
