HOSPITAL LEVIES AND ESTIMATES
£90,000 REQUIRED FOR THE YEAR. AN INCREASE OF-50 PER CENT. The principal business at last night's meeting of the Hospital Board was the consideration of the-estimates for the year. The matter was brought forward by the Finance Committee, who reported as-per statement of estimated receipts and expenditure submitted, in addition to the.£l,4oo (which will not be subsidised by the Health Department) required for Alexandra Ward, the sum of £88,600 is required to be- provided by levy, and Government subsidy thereon, during the year 1920-21. Of the £88,600, the sum of £70,000 is required for ordinary expenditure and £18,600 as capital expenditure. The division between the local bodies and the Government will be as follows:—Local authorities, £37,683 17s lOd: coital, £9,300 and £1,400 (£10,700); 'total, £48,285 17s lOd. Government subsidy at 17s 3d, £32,416 2s 2d; capital (£ for £), £9.300; total, £41,716 2s 2d. Grand total, £90,000. The committee recommended that authority be granted to give each contributory local authority notice of the estimate of expenditure and income and proposedapportionment of estimated expenditure, In order that formal making of the levy may be proceeded with at the next meeting of the board. Hospital), £3,000. The following are the estimated and actual receipts for the year ending March 31, 1921, based on the actual receipts for the year 1919-20:
The Hospital Committee recommended that the following appointments be made to the honorary medical staff at the Hospital for the year ending Slst March, 1921 (alteration being made in the usual number—viz., four physicians being appointed in place of three, two applicants being appointed to the position of ophthalmic surgeons, and two assistant ophthalmic surgeons, with one assistant ophthalmic surgeon, to the out-patient department) : Physicians—Drs F. Fitchett, W. M. Mac- ■ donald, S. Moore, C. Jones; assistant physicians—Drs R. Ritchie, J. T. Bowie, - K. Ross; surgeons—Drs L. E. Barnett, E. J. O'Neill, F. S. Batchelor; assistant surgeons—Drs W. Newlands, T. Fergus, W. Carswell, S. C. Allen; gynaecologist, Dr Riley; assistant gynaecologist, Dr Charles Xorth; ophthalmic surgeons, Drs H. L. Ferguson and A. J. Hall; assistant ophthalmic surgeons—Drs W. I. Bathgate, G-. Fenwick, and A. J. Cottrell; physician for diseases of children, Dr E. H. Williams; ■ Etomatolojrist, Dr H. P.
