EMPIRE THEATRE
- A new programme was shown at the Empire this afternoon, the. feature of which was ' The Love Defender.' It is fair to say that the eternal problem of the matrimonial bond provides always a fascinating study for humankind, for it is the same for one generation as it is for another. A man weds a maid for better or worse, and only time can tell, and the experience of life's little ironies prove whether Cupid is a good match-maker or only a gambler, amusing himself with frail mortals for his stakes. In the new World film production ' The Love Defender ' a young wife discovers that something stronger than the marriage bond is required to hold her husband to her, for his nature makes him a prey to the lure of other eyes than his wife's. She finds that she has to defend love's citadel, and realises that she mnc-t v.in. Tins is jupfc tho role for June Elvidge. and with bewitching Madge Evans in th? part of hir young sister, and handsome Prank Maya as the husband, the production is a threestar success in point of talent. There are also some fine supporting films, which include a rare and humorous Christie comedy, an interesting gazette, and a fine pictorial educator. This programme will be repeated to-night.
