Ihe Jioith v.anfierbury branch of the JSew Zealand Labor Representation Committee have awarded a letter to the Prime Minister "censuring" him for hi* recent utterance regarding' the Japanese—that ■' they were good friends of ours, but it may be that tho friends of to-day will become the enemies of to-morrow." Th" Labor 'Representation Committee state that they look on such references with "grave misgivings." as ■•'calculated to raise suspician in the mind of our Eastern Ally," _ and of which the committee. " can conceive no more sure way of creating animosity than that adopted by the Prime Minister of deliberately anticipating a disturbance of the good relations exist" ing." They appeal to Mr Massey, even though he cannot accept the committee's particular point of view regarding the war generally, "to cease from using "words Avhieh can have no other effect than to antagonis-s a neighboring Power, and thus precipitate a conflagration."
