ST. CLAIR BEACH.

fO THE EDITOB Sir, —I read in your paper a letter, signed by Mr R. Walker, pointing out what is necessary to be done to orotect the St. Clair Beach." The matter contained in the_ letter is of importance and instructive. Before venturing upon a controversy of the nature in dispute, I wish to ask any engineers who have had experience at such works, as protecting the banks of sea frontages from the inflow of the sea damaging the banks, to state what the present groynes are for, and whv so many piles. If these groynes, which I term "eyesores" and "beach disfigurements") are built to break the force of the waves, then can any authority state if the wave action and force is broken after its force is made upon the first pile. If that is =o then why were all the other piles built! and what becomes of the wave action where no_ pile line exists—that is, between each section? To recommend further pile groynes seems absurd. Who is the authority on such work that suggests more P ■?? ? ~J 5J! 1 ' CtC -' ROSLYN. March 10.
