The erection of houses bv the Labor -Department under the Government's housing scheme is proceeding in various parts ol .New Zealand, and SO me good- progress is being made. Extensions are. being planned in several centres. The port-ion of the scheme relating to the erection of houses by local bodies, on the other hand, is being held np bv lack of Government advances. The Housing 4ct provides that the Government mav advance money to local bodies- for the" erection ol homes. Many applications have been made under this portion- of the Act and most of them have been T erv larce' The Cbmtcirurch Qitv Council, "for oxwant £2oo,ooo"and the Wellington municipal authorities a similar S nm° 1. he amount of money at the disposal or the Government will not permit advances to be made on this scale.
