The demand for bunker coal, particularly at Cape Town, has shown a great diminution. Large quantities of coal have, however, been shipped both at Durban and Delagoa Bay on Admiralty and private account for bunkering purposes at Suez, Aden, Perim, and Colombo. South African coal has established itself at these ports, and, provided tonnage is available, •South Africa should be able to retain these markets
In crossing 6,000 miles of ocean, the manner in which the two (Jnnard and Australasian liners Port "Stephens and Port Macquarie kept together was remarkable. Both reached Melbourne on. January 16, the Port Stephens coming from New York via the Cape .and the Fort Macquarie from London with munition workers and families. The vessels joined each other at Cape Town, but one of them cleared the South African port four days before the departure of the other. Despite this fact, they both reached Adelaide in the same week. At Port Phillip Heads the Port Stephens had gained several hours. VESSELS IX WIRELESS CALL.
