XEW YEAR TOUR NAME XT. DR ROSS WINS OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIP. Fourth Day.—Saturday. On Saturday afternoon the final fur the Otago championship eas played between Dr K. Ross (Otago) and Mr B. C. Rutherford (Christchurch), and was witnessed by about 50 spectators. The game was commenced in fine weather, but after the fourth hole rain fell, and made matters unpleasant for over 10 minutes. Then the weather cleared again, and the match was concluded. The game was interesting, both p! avers getting in some fine shots, and Ross winning with 2 mi ant! 1 to play. At the finish both players were applauded. _ During the afternoon tea was served in the ladies’ club room, where the trophies won in the tournament were presented by Mrs Oldham. Mr Johns, of New I’lvniouth, complimented the club on their well-kept course and greens. He added that the in the north, while possibly slightly faster, were certainly no better. The condition of the links'generally was a striking tribute to the efficiency of the caretaker (Mr Milliner). A medal handicap, over 18 holes, was played_ during the afternoon, the following being the best cards handed in:-—O. Forbes, gross 92, handicap 14, net 78- & T. A. Scott, 90-10-80.
