The order of the first three was the same at the half-mile, with Royal Star fourth. At the three furlongs Royal Star got to Warlove, and the pair went away clear. They turned together into the straight, Claverhouse and Eleus next. Amythas, then at the head of the others, here began a phenomenal run, one of tha best ever ~een on the course, and. continuing it, he won bv three-quarters of a length, third a head away, Claverhouse, Eleus, Sedd-el-Bahr, Kilkee, and John Barleycorn at intervals in. that order.
