Mi- Iv. M. Tsiarna-, of Taimit-i. L-seston, will contest Hint {southern Maori .«eafc on behalf of the Liberal party. The official Labor candidate for Mana■watu is Mr A. C. Hillier, of Shannon. Mr Hillier has been identified "with the Labor movement for a number of years. It was the 'intention of Sir James Oarroil that the present session would see the termination of his lengthy and distinguished political career in the service of his country. Strong pressure hag, however, beMi brought to bear upon him from his constituency to induce him to reconsider his determination. Tiie Wellington ' Times ' says : "It has been represented to him that, in view 'of tho perplexing problems created by tho war, ami the existence of a situation that will call for the kelp of the best brains of the country, ho should remain in Parliament -cntil the emergency has beea fully met. Sir James Can-oil haa now decided to yield to this persuasion, and will definitely stand for the Gisborne scat in the Liberal interest at the coming election."
