RETROSPECTIVE ALLOWANCES.

■xo THE EDITOR. ' Sir, —I crave space to comment on Mr T. Miller’s letter on the above. I did not receive any "wife’s allowance for the period jny husband was in camp. 1 did not receive any retrospective allowances for any of my five children. I spoke to a delegate to tho conference about it, and he said that if Sir James Allen expressed to Mr Miller any definite intention of paying retrospective allowances for children he certainly did not reveal such an intention to the conference. It seems time that the rank and file attended tho meeting of the R.S.A. and took a hand. Ro financial allowances, can anyone tell mo why a person who pays rent only can get financial allowance, but if that rent is made to pay off a house it is not granted? It was every citizen’s duty to volunteer; it was tho Government’s duty to accept or reject tho volunteer. As they accepted my husband, I think they are morally responsible to make retrospective the allowance granted to tho Second Division League, whoso splendid work benefited many wives. It is a pity officials like Mr Miller do not follow' the example of the Second Division League, and co-operate with all sections of tho community; then w« would got more done.—l am, etc., Volunteer’s Wife. July 4.
