(Received July 4, at 12.30 p.m.) Further details of tho Java eruption show that a train which waa always kept in readiness to convey Europeans to safety was caught and overwhelmed by the flow of lava. It was clug out snene days later. The effects of t!ho eruption were felt 200 miles away. Although it occurred at 2 o'clock in tihe morning, and lasted rn hour, tho district remained in darkness until 2 o'clock the following afternoon. Later returns show that between 10,000 and 15,000 people perished.
