Tho total number ot cases of infectious diseases rwtiiled in June was 166, a decrease of 67 ay compared with tho number in May. This decrease is mainly due to a drop in the iiiiniW of diphtheria cmcs in the Waitaki, Ota go, and Southknd hospital districts. Scarlet fever cases number 75, an increase of 9 for the month, but a decrease of 3 as compared with -Ivrie (of last year. There were 43 notifications in the Ota go hospital district, against 47 la-?t month. In Dunod : n and suburbs the number was 35, a.«ainst. 41 in Bfcy. These cai-es were scattered throughout, tho City and suburbs, but in Punodiu South andißosiyn the [wilinn is hhk.li improved. The total notifications-of diphtheria wore 65, against 108 in BUy. Tho number of swabs taken in June for bacteriological examination was 193, inclndin- 74 at Anderson Bay, 39 at Kaikorai School, and 73 at Lumsdcn. Amongst the. other disease*, lethargic. encvphalitis claims s—viz., one- each at Roslyn, Sencliff, Kaitangata, Longbusii, and Inrercargi.U.
