Tho Rev. Pereival Ernest James, M.A.. an English clergyman, has been appointed vicar of St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, in succession to Archdeacon Mac-Murray. A Waimate- P.A. mes-ago says; Major Norton Francis, ex-Director of Baso Records, was given a public send-off last evening prior to settling in Christ-church. Mr Francis was Mayor of Waimate for several years. He stated last evening that he had looked forward to his retirement after the war, but? ho now saw tho necessity of throwing himself into business, which everyone with more good years ahead of him or her should do if they wished the Empire to weather the commercial struggle ahead of it. Latest appointments by the Otago Education Board:—Miss E. Shea, sole teacher. Allanton; Miss A. M. Fleming, mistress, Owaka; Miss M. M. Nelson, mistress, Wahvera.

Mrs Gladys Henning, the first lady to receive full membership of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, is_at present in Dunedin on a short visit. Mrs Henning, wife of the late second-Lieuten-ant Henning, M.C., well-known in New Zealand motoring circles, has had two years' service abroad with the New Zealand Transport, and was formerly a nurse in the hospitals in Egypt. She was ambulance driving at Walton Hospital (England) for a time, then was transferred to the Convalescent Camp at Hornchurch where she took charge of the ambulance department. Mrs Pfenning's uniform is attracting curiosity in this City. Sometimes she is taken" for a policewoman, and again for a scout mistress. Major Moller to-day finished his duties at Kensington Hall, and formally handed them over to Captain R. N. Eraser. Major Moller started as area officer and Adjutant of the Fourth Regiment in October of 1914, and was made group commander in July of 1915. He is now retiring into .private life, after nearly four years of most strenuous work, during which thousands of men came before him as recruits or with applications of one sort and another, and wo feel sure that the great majority of them re&nect the major a3 a just man who did his duty impartially and without fear. Madame Marie Puwer, the Dunedin contralto who has been .singing so 'successfully with the Taits' Naval Surrender iiim, has been engaged by the Auckland Male Choir to sing at their festival in the Auckland Town Hall on July 24. Mr Tom Haverly, the Irish comedian of the popular Fuller Revue Company, was married at Wellington ; yesterday morning to Miss Milly Wilson, of Auckland. Air J. V. Hannah, who has been away from New Zealand for over 3 years as a Y.M.C.A. secretary, and who was severely wounded while"on duty in France, returns to Dunedin by to-night's express. Private James Criehtou, Y.C., was accorded a civic reception at the Town Hall to-day, the Returned Soldiers' Association co-operating with tho Mayor in honoring the distinguished soldier. —Auckland telegram. Tho St. Clair Presbyterian Board of Managers decided last night to increase the Rev. John Miller's stipend. His work was spoken of in terms of the highest appreciation. Mr W. M. Hughes is to leave England for Australia on July 4, states a P.A. cable. A London cable states that tho Rev. Hubert Murray Burgo lias been appointed Bishop of Oxford.
