Sir James Allen sent- a message to# the natives of the Goofc Islands through Dr Poma.ro. Sir James Allen said that with reference to the soldiers from the islands it had coma to his knowledge that they intended to perpetuate by some suitable memorial the etory of those who went and those who died. Ha sent good wishes to the soldiers who had returned, and exhorted them to banish from their minds ail thoughts of evil. Ho also extended sympathy to the relatives of those who fell in battle. After reminding them of the merciful Providence which had given them their beautiful islands to live in, he told them of their duty to their fellowmen, and suggested to the islanders that thev might find pleasure and profit in doing 'everything they could to develop the resources of country ; thus the bonds between them and us "would be drawn closer.
