Bv a recent decision the Shine Company have closed down the No. 2 dredge. No. 1 baa undergone a minor overhaul, aatl commenced dredging again on Friday last. For a couple of weeks tha dredge will be engaged ooening out a cut. the Minister of Mines (Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald), asked yesterday if he would give particulars of the new policy regarding mining, replied that he could not go into details, but the Cabinet had practically agreed to his proposals, and he was having legislation prepared for submission to Parliament next session. His intention was to make such arrangements regarding prospecting and investigation of resources as to secure a thorough testing of tha Dominion's mineral resources. It would be necessary to have a measure of reorganisation and a full starling of experts for tho Mines Department in order that samples and proposals submitted might be reported upon quicker than was possible at present. THE NEVIS FIELD. Mesiri Graham and patty are now engaged in the final wash-up for the present season. The work is not yet completed, but the main portion of the return give-3 figures quite- up to the big yields produced at the periodical wash-ups during the year. The results so far Are in the vicinity of 30 cniK"-s weekly for a six weeks run, and io this has to be added the balance of the clean-up Indications that additional big figures will be produced are rent-aimed in the fact. that, in extending- the paddock during the last rim the sample of gold won was one that has never failed to give pcriiiaiitiicT on this field. It is refreshing to bear such reports an the day* of a declining industrv", and the general wish is that tha owners "will meet wrth similar success, SALE OF WAIHI EXTENDED. An Auckland P.A message states thai the sale of the plant and property at Wsftd of the Waihi Extended Company to the Vn'lii Grand Junction Company -was confirmed at a meeting yesterday. The purchase price is £6,700 net. The Extended Company's ground adjoins that of the Grand Junction Company. A dividend of Is psr share has been declared by the Waihi Gold Mining Company.
