A Refraction —Light yearling, sister to Gloaming, was passed in at auction to-day at 1.9 Gogs. O'Shca, the Auckland jockey, is seriously ill with influenza. There is considerable comment in sport ing circles over the disqualification of the well-known rider F. Dempsey for two months for cribbing a post position at the Moonee Valley meeting. NOTES FROM CANTERBURY. [Special to the '-Star.'] CHRISTCHURCH, May 5. . Art will not race at the Dunedin meeting. His mission, it is understood, will be the Great Northern Hurdles. A special horse train in connection with the Forbury Park trots leaves here on Wednesday * morning, stopping en route where required. The return journey will be made at 9 p.m. Saturday. For the Forbury Park Trotting Club's winter meeting the following penalties have been announced: —Innovation Handicap. Vilo 96yds; Victory Handicap, Nancy Stair 12yds.
