COUNCIL. -Vuckland. —Auckland City elected Mr Entrican, Miss Melville, Messrs .Heatbe*, Bloodworth, Bagnall, E. 11. Davis, Holdsworth, Mrs Mag'uire, Messrs Knight, Warnock. Nerheny, Mackay, Savage, Burton, Deransev, Ba'ildon, Patorson, Hall, okelton G. 'Davis, Trevethick, and Brindsden. Eighteen old members were returned. The two ladies are new members. CHRISTCHUHCH. Our Christchurch correspondent wires -. The ' Lvttelton Times ' expresses disappointment and surprise at the result ot the mayoralty. There is sound truth in the old saving that a community is gov-e-nied as well as it deserves, and the electors have only themselves to blame Jor what lias happened. Dr Thacker s success is due. primarily to the tarf-the deplorable fact—that more than 11.COO people abstained from voting. Thompson, and J. Glover. Nine old councillors were reelected. The new. members iricludo four Laborites (Messrs Fraser, Chapman, Glover, and Hutchison).
