ST. KILDA COUNCIL AND THE FIRE BOARD.
10 THE BDITOR. , Sir,—ln last night's issue of the ' Evening Star' I noticed in your locals a paragraph referring to the last meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board.' re taking over the •St. Kilda Municipal Fire Brigade, in which it was stated that the district under the control of that body would be- added to the Dunedin fire district with a view to obtaining the benefit of the City fire service. Now, that is incorrect. The St. Kilda Council appointed three members to wait on the Dunedin Fire Board n few da}'s ago and ask them on what conditions tho board would take St. Kilda. These members were to report to the St. Kilda Borough Council. It appears, however, that the Fire Board, after some discussion, decided to admit the borough to tho benefits provided for under the Fire Protection Act. If the board _ had waited for a reply from the St. Kilda Council before making a decision it would havo been better, as the borough council have to decide whether they will accept the Fire Board's terms, also other business connected with the local brigade.—l am, etc., H. W. Allen, Chairman St. Kilda Fire Brigade Committee. Much 20. *
