In the House of Commons, during the ooursa of the War Pensions debate a couple of weeks ago, members warmly cheered the ma idea speech of Major Cohen, ono of the members for Liverpool, v/ho lost both, legs in the war. Seated in tlio corner below the gangway, Major Cohen told vividly the human story of the disabilities of the maimed officers and men. They would be fully _ capable, he said of various occupations if they were enabled to work in their own homes to supplement their pensions. They could not all become members of tho House of Commons. Colonel Sir James Craig, on behalf of the Government, mentioned that the pension claims were increasing by nearly 20,000 ft week. The oxpendifciire for 1919 would be approximately £60,000,000. Miss M. Black, after an absence of two months from Dunedin, is returning on Monday night to again take up her duties as <nrls' department secretary of the Y.wIC.A.
