DISCOURAGING WHEATGROWING

[Special to the ‘Stab.’] CHRISTCHURCH, _ December 20. It is feared that the fixing of tho prices for wheat for the present season and also for next year’s crop at rates much below what growers were asking will not encourage the growing of wheat. It is ovidentlv intended that the prices shall not be above the parity of tho probable values of Australian wheat. Until the growers meet and discuss the matter it is difficult to say what their-opinions are, but millers and merchants are afraid that wheat-growing will be discouraged.
