This is the hour of thanksgiving to God for the gift of peace, and this building is being erected as a thank-giving for peace. It is being built in a new u.-g-lj!,, with a sn ah population. The parish is iu charge of the Rev. Father D. O’N't-ili, v.-Jio labored for many years at South Dunedin. The ceremony of laying the foundation atone was performed 'by’ the Very Rev. Father Cofifay (Adm. of tho Diocese). The sermon was preached by Very Rev. Father Liston (rector of Holy Cross‘College. Mosgieij, and a M.-ssa Ca.ni.tta wits sung by Rev. Father O'N’eili, parish priest. °The ehwr of the local church rendered tho music of tho Mass. -Mr H. ASandcuo, Dunedin, is tho architect for tho building, tho plans of which show a nave uierrsuring 50fi by 24ft 6iu, which will bo capable of seating about 175 people. The wajb of the mvc Jiavo been kept sufficiently high to t>ermit of th-o addition of a gallery at some futine date, when the requirements of tho district demand it. The sanctuary measures 15ft cin square, and is finished with a nicelydesicued covered ceiling. On one side of the sanctuary is the priest’s sacristy, 16ft x 12ft: on the other is a room which will i eventually ba used as a nun’s choir. Tho walk and foundations of tho building are to be constructed of reinforced concrete. The roof is to ho sacked ami felted, and covered v.iih red roofing tiles. The ins.de v..,lis will he finished in plain okstcr, the. -coiling is to be panelled out in veilesta, and all tho remaining woodwork will be finished in picked red pin© and o:k-d. An attractive hoifry surmounts tho main gable facing the street, and lower down on the gable a niche has been left for a statue. tho building has been substantially designed, and should prove a pleasing addition to the picturesque townsl'jf of Roxburgh. Mr ]j. T. Boyd is the contractor for the work, and the cost will be somewhat over £I,BOO. — Own correspondent.
