Which is the more difficult feat—to climb up tho outside of a New York city skvseraper or to climb down The Human Fly has been thrilling New Yorkers with the first-named act; now comes Daredevil Steve, and says that to climb down is much harder, because you cant, see vrnere you’re going. He challenges the Human Fly to go up while ho himself goes down on' any selected building, the loser to -pay a forfeit of 10,000dol to any war charity the winner may name. Incidentally, it may bo mentioned that the Human Fly now makes his feat more spectacular by climbing up a lofty building’s outside walls at night, his precarious way being illuminated by searchlight.
One of tbs discoveries of the war has been the number of defective teeth among men otherwise tit. England, (says an English journal) is the worst Ventured of any civilised nation. An authority states that one-tenth of our armies are constantly incapacitated through teeth troubles. This figure might be less hut for the fact that the soldier lias a prejudice against army dentistry—he has an idea that it is rough and ready. Trench mouth makes ravage! among British soldiers, whereas among others —the Canadians, for instance —it has been practically eliminated. A dentist suggests that we should have panel dentists like panel doctors, and ho would take the evil at its source by beginning with tbs children.

Rentes at 70.80 per cent., which give* a yield of 5.65 per cent, per annum to the investor. It is guaranteed that the rate of interest will be maintained for 2o years, and the main purpose of the flotation i* believed to be* the consolidation of unfunded debt. Like other members of the Entente, Prance has been forced to adopt methods for meeting her expenditure which would not be selected in ordinary times. With her character' as a financier of the highest class, France naturally seizes the first opportunity of straightening her monetary affairs, and as the Treasury has leaned upon the Bank of France to the extent of approximately £600,000,000, it is not surprising that the bank’s note issue was £l.lBO millions on September 5, or £355 millions more than at tn€ corresponding date in. 1917,
