Major 8. G. Smith, who has been awarded the Military Cross (not tho medal), is the youngest son of Mr S. G. Smith, of this City. Mr R. Scmpio has been nominated by the Wellington Tramways Union as candidate for election to Parliament, at the coming by-election for Wellington South. He has accepted the nomination, which, with othors, will come up for_ consideration by tho combined representatives of Labor organisations. The many friends of Cr J. Small, for several years chairman of tho Finance Committee of the City who has been laid aside with a serious illness for about seven months, will b/> pleased to learn that he is getting about again. News has been received that Lady Findlav, accompanied by Major Wilfred Findlay, and Captain Lloyd Findlay, M.C., have arrived in Canada en route for Nov/ Zealand, and are expected to reach Wellington early in January. Mr R. Wright, who has occupied the position of Inspector of Stock 'at Invercargill for tho past 16 yeai'B, has been promoted to the position of Bistrict Inspector at Wellington. Mr 0. Gibbs, of North-east Valley, has received word that his youngest son, Private L. I. Gibbs (12th Reinforcements), has been awarded the Military Medal.
