PRESENTATIONS TO THE MAYOR

The City Council Chambers were packed at 5 o’clock last evening, when members of the City Council, City Corporation officials, and members of the staff representing all branches assembled to make presentations to His Worship tho Mayor (Air J. J. Clark) on the occasion of his marriage on the following day, Tho first presentation came from the City and it was made by Or Shaddock (the Deputy Mayor), who said that councillors could not possibly allow such an occasion to pass without showing their esteem for His Worship, who had so ably presided over them for over three and a-half years. He had much pleasure, on behalf of the council, in presenting him with a silver afternoon tea set, and ho trusted that he and his wife to be would be long spared to look upon this token of the council’s appreciation of His Worship’s valuable services on behalf of tho City of Dunedin. Cr Wilson wished the Mayor every happiness. He had presided over the council now for nearly four years, and, they had all got on extremely well under him. His Worship had done good work for the City in many ways. ■ Crs Hancock, Bradley, Green, Begg, and Scott also expressed their good wishes. The Mayor, in returning thanks, said that during the 10 years he had been in the council he had always found councillors outspoken, sincere, and honest in their opinions. Tho public did not always realise the amount of work that councillors put in in the interests of tho City. They had been extremely fortunate in having had such worthy representatives. He felt glad that during those past few years of darkness that they had all been able to do something for the Empire. They had all kept a stout heart, and had done what they could for their King and country. The corporation employees then presented His Worship with a cose of silver cutlery. Mr W. B. M'Ewan (librarian) was appointed to the chair, and expressed his regret at the absence of the Town Clerk (Mr G. A. Lev.-in) through illness. Mr R. A. Johnston (deputy Town Clerk) read a letter from Mr Lowin wishing His Worship every happiness. Mr W. D. B. M ‘Cardie (city engineer) made tho presentation. Mr 0. F. Alexander (tramways manager) and Mr H. H. Henderson (city treasurer) also extended their good wishes. Mr M. C. Henderson (city electrical engineer) apologised for his absence.
