. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before H. A. Young, Esq., S.M.) By-law Cases.—John Waldie, charged with driving cattle through the North-east Valley during prohibited hours, was fined 5s and costs (7s). For allowing the chimney of their premises to catch tire, Harry Siedeberg was fined 5s and costs (7s), and Richard Daveney 10s and costs (15s). ■ Keith Menzles, a, youth, was charged with riding a motor cycle on the wrong side of the street, and also with riding it without a certificate of efficiency.—He was fined 10s and costß (7s) on the first charge, and was ordered to pay costs (7s) on the second. riding a bicycle on a footpath at Green Island, Adam Callaghan was finod 5b and costs (7b). Attempted Murder.—Mary Jane Moody was charged with the attempted murder of her husband.—Accused, who was represented by Mr C. N. Scurr, was further remanded for a week.—Tho Chief Detective said that the complainant was not well enough yet to give evidence.—Mr _ Scurr applied for bail, and said that if it was granted accused would go to Otago Central, where her relatives lived.—His Worship granted bail, accused in her own recognisances of £l5O and one surety of a like amount, a condition being that she remained with her relatives in the country. Military Service Act.-—Albert Taylor, a reservist, was charged with failing to notify tho Government Statistician at Wellington of Bis change of address. Ho pleaded guilty.—The Sub-inspector said that it was a pure case of neglect. The defendant took a position on a troopship, and on his return he overlooked notifying tho change of his address.—The defendant said hn was 44 years of age, and had five children. One of iiis sons had done two years' service in France.—The defendant was ordered to pay court costs (7s). Prohibited.—Alexander Adams (Mr Scurr), a prohibited person, charged witli procuring liquor, pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s and costs (7s).
The Quarries Act.—Henry James Harrison, manager of Shiels' Quarry, was charged with failing to securely protect and make safe for persons employed therein a certain excavation in connection with the working of the quarry. He was also charged with not carrying on the working of the-sides of the quarry so as io prevent dangerous falls. Mr W. C. MacGregor, E.G., appeared to prosecute, and Mr A. S. Adams to defend.—The cases were adjourned until Friday week. Indecent Assaults. —Andrew Frederick Chapman was charged with, at Ravensbourne, indecently assault in !>■ three girls. Mr A. 0. Hanlo'n defended. After evidence accused reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed, himself in £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each.
