DUNEDIN ORPHANS' CLUB

His Excellency the Governor, Lord Liverpool, paid an unofficial visit to tho Dunedin Orphans' Club last night, and spent a couple of hours with tho members.

Tlw President (Bro. G. W. MMntosh) welcomed His Excellency, who, he understood, was tho patrou of the Auckland Orphans' Club. The Dunedin Oiphans' Club highly appreciated this informal visit, which was most- auspicious, coming as it did on the eve of the great British victory in Palestine. 'Tho club, as His Excellency knew, had for their objects the fostering and encouragement of the arts of music and elocution and the building up of good fellowship amongst members. "Mr M'lnlosh then asked His Excellency to accept, the badge of their club, and pinned it, on his breast amidst loud applause. His Excellency briefly replied. He had had a very heavy day, he explained, and would not inilict a speech upon the members. He deemed it a great honor to be made a member of the club. Ho trusted that tho news that day would prove to be more than auspicious for a great many people of the British Empire. His Excellency added, facetiously, that lie was glad to see the members did not wear kilts.

Later in the evening His Excellency gtaciouslv consented to become tho patron of the club. An entertaining programme bad beori arranged, the following members contributing items:—Bros. W. E. Carr, T. Baciiop, W.Penrose, J.Vivian, C.Hannah (songs), -J. Haggitt (humorous sketches), J. M'Comiell (comic song), J. Malonoy. ti. 11. Oiboru (recitations), G. Clark (violin solo). ]>. E. Booth (who performed the celebrated Malini trick with tho bant: notes, the egg, and the lemon), Dallas and M'Lean (cornet duct). The orchestra played a number of pleasing selections. His" Excellency also took a share in the entertainment* of the members, his contribution being a couple of good humorous stories.
