TIMBER EXPORT PROHIBITED
AN EXAGGERATED REPORT.
[Special to the ‘ Stab. ’]
CHRISTCHURCH, September 24. It has been rumored that the Government are about to prohibit the export of New Zealand timbers to Australia, but a gentleman connected with the industry informed a reporter yesterday that this was not so. Steps are simply being taken by the Board of Trade to ascertain the available quantities of white pine so that if there is a shortage of such for Dominion butter box making requirements steps can be taken to curtail the export. For this reason they are requesting saw-millers to supply certain returns.
