NEW “CREAMOATA” MILLS

IMPORTANT NEW ZEALAND INDUSTRY.

Work on the new structure at Gore for Messrs Fleming and Company, Ltd., ma-nufactarors of Creamoata and other well-known cereal foods, has now been commenced in earnest/, wid it is claimed that this mill, when finished, will be the moat complete plant in Australasia for the preparation) of various kinds of cereal foods. The new building will be entirely of ferro-ooncreto, practically fireproof throughout. The foundations are sunk to a depth of 12ft. The total height of the new struct, tma will I>3 83ft, comprising fivo stories, each of 15ft. The whole of the enter walls, with the exception of the atructnaial piers, will to of glass, thus making the building what is known to-day as a “ Sunlight ” Factory, and every known device for ample ventilation and general hygiene will bo provided. The roof of both silos nad mill will be of concrete, as also will to all staircases and conditioning bins, while all epouls, conveyors, and elevators will be of steel. An electric lift will also bo provided for communication between the different floors. Power will be- transmitted to tiro different groups of machines' electrically from the main gen-e----rator in the power-house The handling of tiia raw material will be den© automatically from the railway waggon to the storage silos, from silos to cleaning, grading, and conditioning plant, thence to the automatic ovens and cooling apparatus, through the innumerable processes of hulling, purifying, and- final rolling and dressing to tto automatic filling, weighing, and sealing machine', which turns out tiro finished packages. A. special permit lies been obtained from the authorities to import the required machinery in view of its use for the manufacture of foodstuffs and to replace plant destroyed bv fire. The automatic filling, weighing, and coaling machinery is similar to plants used bv the Quaker Gate Company, Kellogg's Toasted Gorn-Flako Company, and many of tire largest food packers in America. Moreover, this is the only plant of its kind in Australasia, and the firm are to Iks congratulated on their enterprise. So far as New Zealand-made food products are concerned, Messrs Fleming and Company, Ltd., hare- proved that- what can he clone in other cownstrios can be done hors in the Dominion.
