CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
! The Works Committee report having instructed the City Engineer to arrange for tha erection of electric lkjht at the north-eastern corner of the Duke street intersection with George street, using for the purpose one of the existing lights on the nearest tramway pole. Instructions have been given that the Presbyterian Church Board's 'lease of allotments'B ;md 9, Caversham East (Wiikie road), which tho council took over front the iate Caversham Borough Council, is not to be renewed when it expires in November next. The lease has been held for 18 years, at a rental of £5 per annum. The land is not now of any use to the City- Council. The Water Committee recommend that authority b« gnintr-tt to lay 23 chains of 4-inch main in Cave 11 av.d Rav-elstor.e streets, Anderson Pay. at an estimated cost (at pre-war prices for mains) of £250. At present prices the cost would be £460. As it is very doubtful whether the pumping plant for Powder Civek will he leceived in time to be of any use during the nest summer season, the City Engineer has been instructed to make inquiries a:.d report if it is possiblo to obtain any suitable purnps in the Dominion or Australia. Tho General Committee report that as several instances have come to their notice of alterations and additions having been made to buildings (more particularly internal alterations), without a permit* having been obtained therefor, it has b""ii decided that, in the event of any similar breaches of the building by-law being reported in future, the offenders 'shali be prosecuted. Th_>- Reserves Committee recommend that tho Town Clerk be authorised to take the necessary steps to obtain legislative authority for the council to purchase sheep for pasturing on the city reserves, and to dispos" of or otherwise deal with such sheep from time to time as may be considered desirable bv tho council. The Tramways Committee report that in response to a communication from the C'-ief Postmaster inquiring if the department would be willing to accept a renewal of the existing agreement for the carriage of mails and letter carriers on tho electric tra.inwavs for a period cf three- years, the Chief Postmaster !.;:.- beep advised that thev are prepared to '•viei'd the existing agreement for a period of three years, provided the present contract, price be advanced. !n----st-i ict-ion s bar.- been given to run one additional time-table car to Tahuna en Simdav evening.
