SCARLET FEYER DEGREASING-, ESPECIALLY IE DUNEDIN, DIPHTHERIA CASES INC.MEASED. SOUTHLAND STILL THE CENTRE. By tho courtesy oi Dr. O'Sullivan (health officer), we ere enabled to give some particulars as to the conditions in the Otago and Southland Hospital District over which ho has control. Tho total number of notifications of infections diseasss within tho Otago and. Southland Hospital District dining tho month of June was £OS, tho same number as for May. Scarlet fever notifications reached the total of 78, a decrease of 21 as compared with May. In and about Dunedin there .arc 49 of these scarlet fever eases, but it is satisfactory to note tha appreciable decrease bare, for there were 73 such cases in and about Dunedin in May. In the Southland Hospital District there wore If) scarlet fever notifications. seven in Wo.daki. two in Vincent, and one in tbs Wallace district. “ The number of scarlet fever cases, t’nouoh tower than in May. is still high.” added Dr. O’Sullivan, “and this is duf largely to the fuel, that numerous cases are of mild iyp-a.
