MINING.
A profit of only £7,372 was made by Trong Tin N.L., Federated Malay States, during the rear ended February 28, dredging on the trong lease having ceased early in December last. The profit has been reduced to £6,655 by writing off £717, expenditure incurred in boring and in investigating new properties. During the current term a further sum of £BSO has been spent on similar work. The company's last dividend (the fourth), absorbing £3,300, was paid in June, 1917. The company's dredge has been purchased by the newly formed Kalumpang Tin N.L.. F.M.S., which has an authorised capital of £IOO,OOO, divided into 100,000 share? ot’ £1 each, of which the Trong Company hold ! %0,000 fully paid-up shares. By ■direction of the Federal Treasurer these shares will be held in escrow until six months after the termination of the war, but this arrangement will not interfere with the disbursement of dividends in regard to the shares. The removal of the dismantled dredge from Taiping railway station began on May 20, and when it arrives on the property the work of r>- ■ assembling it will be pushed on with oil possible speed. The property has an area, of about 370 acres. Mr W. Bethnne put down 239 bores in tbs richest portion «*f the ground, about 164 acres, and as these showed that the vendors’ representations as to values on this area, at least, had been borne out, it was thought unnecessary further to test the property. The average value disclosed by 96 bores w»19.50z tin concentrates of 70 per can metal per cubic yard; 60 bores, 19oz; L bores. 13.50z ; 58 bores, 7.20z.
