CONCERT AT MAORI HILL

A concert was held in ( the Coronation Hall last evening Jn aid of the local Brass Band fund. Mr A. Walker, M.P., president of tho band, in announcing the first item of tho programme, spoko of the interest tho residents of Maori Hill had taken in their band. The efforts of the band had been successful to tho amount of £IOO in raising funds. The purpose of the concert that evening was to liquidate the small amount still standing to the debit of the band's funds. The progress and popularity of the band during the last three or four years had baen due to the conductor (Mr J. Simpson). He regTetted to announce that Mr Simpson had been compelled to resign his conductorship on account of other duties occupying lus nine, but he hoped that the band would maintain their present high standing. The following contributed to the programme; Maori Hill Band, two selections; songs— Misses B. Clement, Alma Finnerty, C. Jarratt, and Messrs C. Scott, S. Angell, J. Deaker, R. Hart, A. Hall, and J. Finnerty ; instrumental items—Messrs A. Caulcutt, W. Smith, R. Munn, J. Pedlar, J. VV. Simpson, and J. Simpson; recitation, Miss L. Spiers; dance, Misses R. Robinson, M. M'Lauchlan, A. Finnerty, and L. Kelly. Mr A. Miller Hope played the accompaniments. There was a large attendance, and the items, juddng by the applause and encores, were highly appreciated.
