In the Police Oonrt at New Plymouth yesterday, before Air Crnoke, S.AL, the sequel to the recent Alaori riot at Rahta was heard, when about a score of Maori# were charged with various offences. Billy Te Whiti. son of the Parihaka prophet, was charged with indecency and assault, and committed for trial, also 16 other# for participating in the riot at Rahotu. The constable attributed the trouble mainly to his efforts to enforce military registration among the Alaoris. At. a military tribunal in a rural distriff the other day one member asked the applicant, a shepherd, if he knew of any reason why his work should not be undertaken by e. woman. “ A girl once tried it,” replied *-h* applicant, “ and she made a mess of It." “ AVho was she?” inquired the chairman “ ‘ 800-Peep!’ ” answered the shepherd.
