EDUCATIONAL REFORM
The Schools’ Committees' Association of Canterbury have adopted tho following fighting platform :
That 45 children be the maximum in anv class under the charge of one teacher. That school buildings bo modernised, and provided with single adjustable desks ; that open-air classes be extended, and larger playgrounds provided. That ~ all kindergarten schools bo ■placed on the same footing as State primary schools. Free and compulsory medical and dental treatment for children in State schools. Free school books. That continuation classes be made compulsory. That all secondary and technical high schools be controlled by tho respective Education Boards. That appointments to the Education Department be taken from under the jurisdiction of tho Public Service Commissioners. That school committees he elected for a term of two years instead of one year as at present.
